A Practice Built on Careful Counsel
Vicarum was founded on the belief that legal advice should be clear, considerate, and grounded in the realities of the Malaysian legal system.
Back to HomeHow Vicarum Came to Be
Vicarum was established in Seremban with a straightforward purpose: to offer legal counsel that people could approach without hesitation. The founders, who between them had spent years in litigation, notarial practice, and commercial law, observed that many individuals and businesses in Negeri Sembilan struggled to find guidance that was both technically sound and plainly communicated.
The practice grew from a modest office on Jalan Dato Bandar Tunggal into a team covering three distinct but complementary areas — Shariah law, notarial authentication, and construction law. Each area was chosen because it reflected a genuine gap in accessible, quality legal support within the region.
From the outset, the firm adopted a posture of listening before advising. Clients are not expected to arrive with a full understanding of the law; they are expected only to describe their situation. The role of Vicarum's practitioners is to translate that situation into legal terms and then explain the implications in language the client can use to make an informed decision.
This approach has shaped the culture of the firm: patient, thorough, and respectful of the fact that legal matters — whether a family estate, a power of attorney, or a construction payment dispute — carry real weight in the lives of those involved.
What Guides Our Practice
Clarity Over Complexity
Legal language is not a barrier between you and your matter. We work to make the relevant information accessible without oversimplifying what requires care.
Fairness in Engagement
Every client engagement is approached with the same attention regardless of the value or complexity of the matter. We do not operate on a tiered level of care.
Guidance, Not Pressure
Our role is to inform and advise. The decision about how to proceed always rests with the client. We present options without steering you toward any particular outcome.

Vicarum operates within Malaysia's dual legal system — a structure that requires practitioners to understand the interplay between civil law principles and Shariah jurisprudence, particularly when advising Muslim clients on estate matters or family disputes. This dual competence is not common among smaller regional practices, and it is a defining feature of what the firm offers to clients in Seremban and surrounding areas.
Notarial work occupies a distinct space in Malaysian legal practice. Documents intended for use in foreign jurisdictions, property transactions, immigration matters, or corporate registrations often require the attestation of a qualified notary public. The requirements vary by country and purpose, and navigating them without guidance can lead to unnecessary delays. Vicarum's notarial team has handled authentications for clients dealing with institutions in Singapore, the United Kingdom, Australia, and elsewhere in the region.
Construction law in Malaysia has evolved significantly since the introduction of CIPAA 2012. The adjudication mechanism it provides has become an increasingly used route for resolving payment disputes — particularly for subcontractors and suppliers who previously had limited options when main contractors delayed or withheld payment. Vicarum's advisory in this area draws on direct experience with adjudication proceedings and contract disputes in the construction sector.
